A dedicated medical community of five hospitals in the San Gabriel area surrounds this 99-bed facility.  It has two rehab rooms (one for PT and one for OT).  It also has mechanically adjustable parallel bars that are in excess of 20 feet long.  The entire facility has been approved for upcoming renovations, which will see the addition of a fast-recovery unit.  It is located in a very safe area.  The patient population is largely comprised of orthopedic diagnoses as well as with other diagnoses, which offer good probability that the patient will get better and be discharged to home or a lower level of care.

 Licensure/Certification:

Licensed as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant for the State of California, or eligible.

Must have valid CPR certification within the last year.

Must have a completed physical examination from a licensed physician within the last year.

Must have a negative TB skin test from within the past year OR a clear Chest X-ray within the past five years.

Experience:

Entry-level to Experienced.

Physical Requirements:

A. Ability to bend, reach, or assist to transfer up to 50-100 lbs.

B. Ability to stand and/or walk 80% of an 8 hr. shift.

 C. Visual and hearing acuity to perform job-related functions.

The Staff Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant administers occupational therapy services as directed by a registered occupational therapist; does not perform evaluations.   Performs duties assigned by the Director of Rehab or staff therapist(s). 

Reports to:

Registered Occupational Therapist(s), Director of Rehabilitation, CQI Designee/Mentor, Regional Mentor.

1. Determine patient’s need for service in collaboration with an OTR/L.
2. Contributes to the assessment process under the direction of an OTR/L.  Provides information to the OTR/L for analysis.
3. Assist the OTR/L in developing a treatment plan.
4. Under the supervision of an OTR/L, the COTA provides patient services recommended by the OTR/L.
5. Reports observations of patient’s performance and responses to services to the OTR/L.
6. Maintains appropriate and accurate records on all patients/residents as directed by the OTR/L.
7. Recommends termination of patient services to the supervisor.
8. Carries out assignments given by the Director of Physical Therapy.
9. Reports any problem areas/equipment within each facility to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
10. Comply with the State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board Guidelines.
11. May perform other duties as assigned
